Please allow me to extend my sincerest congratulations to Minister Wang and Vice-Minister Qiu (pronounced Tsio)

• For the excellent organization of the 3^rd International Conference on Intelligent Green and Energy Efficient Building and New Technologies and Product Expo.
•  I wish us all a most successful event.

 

It is an honor for American Standard and a welcome opportunity for me personally to be here today for the opening of this conference.

 

• You’re here to share your expertise in green building technology.
• And your commitment to put that technology to work.
• On behalf of the environment, I want to thank you for both.

 

 

 

Over the years, American Standard, our Trane air conditioning business and our Bath and Kitchen business have had the opportunity to work closely with the Ministry of Construction on many important projects. We are grateful and proud of this partnership.

 

• Of all our joint projects, I think the creation of the National Green Building Innovation Awards just might be one of the most exciting.
• The bi-annual award was initiated in 2005 by the MoC and is exclusively supported by American Standard.
• It recognizes outstanding green buildings in China.
• I’m delighted that this year’s award winners will be recognized here at this international conference.
• And I certainly want to congratulate those winners.

 

Next year the nations of the world will send their best athletes to Beijing for the Olympic Games.

 

• The winners will stand on podiums and receive their medals.
• Those medals will be huge achievements for the athletes.
• And a source of great pride for their countries.
• The same can be said about the National Green Building Innovation Awards.

 

I’m sure many of the award winners have children.

 

• And when their children ask them what they do for a living.
• The award winners could put modesty aside and say:
• ‘I’m saving the planet.’
• That should make the kids proud of their mothers and fathers.

 

 

Of course, saving the planet is a shared effort.

 

• American Standard has been part of the effort for many years.
• Being a steward of the environment is part of who we are as a company.
• And I’m happy to say it’s part of what our customers expect from us.

 

Given our long-standing commitment to the environment, it is a special opportunity to partner with the Ministry of Construction.

 

·         We respect and admire the ministry’s commitment to apply green building technology to promote sustainable development in China.

·         And we appreciate the opportunity to bring our most advanced applications for energy efficiency, water conservation and environmental protection to China.

·         To further develop those applications in cooperation with our customers.

·         And with the MOC.

 

 

We’ve been in China for 27 years.

 

• And we are enthusiastic participants in China’s environmental initiatives, economic growth and social development.
• Helping to develop Chinese talent and bringing world-class technology to the country.
• The R&D center we opened in Shanghai in 2004 is a major technical resource for Trane worldwide.
• And we’re making a major expansion to our state-of-the-art air-conditioning manufacturing plant in Tai Cang (“tie chang”).
• That plant will manufacture chillers, the heart of our big commercial air conditioning systems.
• Including chillers using the environmentally friendly R-123 refrigerant.
• One of those chillers will be part of the air conditioning system we have been selected to provide for the new headquarters of China’s State Environmental Protection Agency.

 

 

That building will be a showcase for innovations in green building technology and design.

So are the National Green Building Innovation Awards.

 

• It’s been said that human indifference is the enemy of the environment.
• But human ingenuity is its best defense.

 

 

Fortunately, there is a boundless supply of human ingenuity.

 

• The National Green Innovation Award winners are proof of that.
• We look forward to many years of encouraging these innovators.
• And to the day when every building will be a green building.
