英:If you ask most people to list the most important impacts that buildings have on the environment the chances are that energy use will be at the top. Whilst energy is undoubtedly a critical part of the environmental debate, it is not the whole picture. There is also a need to consider the other environmental impacts that buildings have such as water use, depletion of natural resources, land use, damage to ecology and even the internal environment that they provide for occupants.
So, how do we balance all these issues and evaluate the overall impact that a building has on the environment?
BRE’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) was developed to allow just this, enabling the many environmental impacts that a building has to be assessed and converted into a single building score. The methodology is flexible, technically robust and independently governed. As a result BREEAM has earned the respect of the UK construction sector and is now recognised worldwide as the most successful environmental assessment method for buildings. |
